Albany man gets up to 25 years in prison for driving drunk and high, causing deadly crash

An Albany man was sentenced up to 25 years in prison for driving while drunk and high and causing a deadly crash in 2022.
Caezare Ebron, 38, was found asleep behind the wheel on Nov. 18, 2022 in the area of Central and North Lake avenues. Ebron then woke up and took off, reaching speeds of 80 mph, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
Ebron ran a stop sign at the intersection of Bradford and Ontario streets and struck a car. A passenger in the vehicle, Kyreem Softleigh, 26, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Ebron was high on marijuana and had a blood alcohol content of 0.18%, according to prosecutors. The legal limit is 0.08%.
He was out on bail awaiting sentencing for a weapons charge.
Ebron previously pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
Judge Andra Ackerman sentenced him to 12 ½ to 25 years on the homicide charge and seven years on the weapons count. They are to run consecutively for a sentence of 19 ½ to 25 years in prison.
Ebron did not speak at sentencing.
