Albany man pleads guilty in case involving officers exposed to drugs, crashing cars

The Albany man whose actions led to two police officers being exposed to drugs and four police officers hurt in a crash pleaded guilty on Friday.

Rahmel Carter, 38, was arrested last Sept. 18. Officers responded to a residence on Slingerland Street around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute. When two officers arrived, Carter started fighting with them and they requested backup. The officers were exposed to powder cocaine, investigators said.

Four officers were heading to the scene. The two separate cars crashed into each other in the area of Madison Avenue and Quail Street. All six officers were taken to local hospitals.

Carter had 118 grams of cocaine.

Carter pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal contempt, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

He is facing 6 to 10 years in prison when sentenced on June 20, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
