Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan signed the new 25 miles per hour city speed limit into law on Monday. However, it won’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2025.
This is a decrease from the current 30 miles per hour.
The city has previously installed red light cameras at more than 20 intersections, speed humps on more than 20 streets across Albany, and plans to install school zone speed cameras this fall.
The change is yet another way the city of Albany is working to enhance public safety and improve access for all modes of transportation, city leaders said.
