Albany police chief issues statement after Albany homicides

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins issued a statement after an 18-year-old man was killed Thursday and two more men were gunned down early Sunday morning.

“I am deeply troubled by recent incidents in our community that have tragically claimed the lives of three young men,” Hawkins said. “Resorting to gun violence to resolve disputes or conflicts is never the answer and has traumatic impacts on lives, families, and our community as a whole.”

All of the shootings remain under investigation.

“The Albany Police department is working tirelessly to determine the circumstances surrounding these incidents. I am confident we will identify those responsible and bring them to justice,” Hawkins said. “The APD remains committed to continuing to work with our community as well as our law enforcement partners at all levels of government to continue our trend of taking illegally possessed firearms off our streets, arresting violent individuals and enhancing public safety.”
