Albany Police made arrest in connection to assault incident, officer injured in the process
Albany Police say they arrested James Farmer, 41, of Albany and charged him in connection to an assault that happened on Friday afternoon.
The assault incident happened in the area of Jay Street and Quail Street around 4:30 p.m.
Officers say observed a fight between Farmer and another male, and Farmer had struck the male in the head with a glass bottle and punched him multiple times in the back of his head. The victim and Farmer are known to each other, said police.
They say the 50-year-old male victim sustained pain and swelling to the back of his head.
When officers tried to intervene and apprehend Farmer, he ignored their commands, said police.
Albany Police add that during the incident, while Farmer was actively resisting arrest, it resulted in an officer sustaining injury to his hand.
Officials arrested Farmer and took him into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Police say Farmer is charged with the following:
- Second-degree assault
- Second-degree obstructing governmental administration
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Disorderly conduct
- Resisting arrest
Farmer was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Saturday morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
