Eric Hawkins has led the police department for six years, making him the longest serving Albany Police Chief in four decades.
Before coming here, he was the police chief in Southfield, Michigan. Now he’s heading back to that state to be police commissioner in Warren, Michigan.
Outgoing Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins had a lot to say today about crime numbers and if the city is safer now than when he took this job in 2018.
Hawkins said he took over an Albany department with morale problems at a time of increased violence, and he is proud of offering stability during a tumultuous time.
