American Red Cross aids six people after Petersburg fire
Volunteers from the Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to six people after a fire Saturday morning on Schaeffer Road Extension in Petersburg, Rensselaer County.
The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to four adults and two children, ages 9 and 14.
Volunteers also offered emotional support, health services, and comfort kits containing personal care items, as well as stuffed animals for the children.
We do not yet know if there were any injuries or what started the fire.
In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.
You can help by volunteering with the Red Cross and responding to home fires and other disasters in your community.
