Amsterdam School District, theater group mourn loss of beloved chemistry teacher, 31
The Amsterdam school community is mourning the death of a high school chemistry teacher.
Liam Pickett, 31, died on Tuesday after a medical emergency at the school, according to a Facebook post on Home Made Theater, where he was a volunteer and supporter.
“He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a warm, friendly smile for everyone,” the post said.
Home Made Theater Artistic Director Dawn Oesch said Liam grew up with the group. The organization will dedicate its production of “Peter Pan” to him.
“Liam was always someone you could count on. He’s been part of our Home Made Theater family for so long, I don’t know what it will be like without him,” she said.
Pickett died from an apparent heart attack.
Pickett was a NewsChannel 13 Top Teacher in 2019, when he worked at Doane Stuart School.
His mission statement on his LinkedIn page says that his goal as an educator is: “To provide students with the resources and guidance that they need to explore every aspect of the world. I will strive to inspire each student to gain a desire to further explore the world.”
