Amtrak train, tractor trailer collide just west of Amsterdam
An Amtrak train hit a tractor-trailer on the tracks in Palatine Bridge in Montgomery County.
The accident happened at 11:16 a.m. Friday on Spring Street.
The train was traveling from New York City to Toronto with 131 passengers and crew on board at the time.
One passenger reported a minor injury, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The train did not derail, and Amtrak riders were transferred to a new train a few hours later.
Workers on scene told NewsChannel 13 the tractor trailer had backed into the tracks just before the collision.
The driver of the tractor trailer was unharmed.
The Amtrak Train had damage to its locomotive and had to be towed back west towards Albany – Rensselaer.
Crews were on scene for more than five hours after the incident, with Spring Street shut down.
