An additional $75 million is coming to GlobalFoundries in Saratoga County.

The money from the Chips and Science Act will create a first-of-its-kind chips packaging and photonics center, according to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer. This will add up to 100 new jobs.

The new funding for GlobalFoundries is on top of the $1.5 billion from last year, which includes building a second facility.

GlobalFoundries is one of just four companies with this technology headquartered outside of China, and the only one in the United States, Schumer said.

The chips that are made are used in automotive, communications, radar, and other critical industries, Schumer said.
