Antique boat motor club growing by waves
BURNT HILLS – Many people love collecting things like comics, coins, and dolls, but a local group of mechanics have a different passion – old boat motors.
The Mohawk Hudson Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club is holding their annual swap meet on Saturday, April 26. Dozens of antique collectors are expected to gather in Burnt Hills at Schrader and Company from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is open to everyone of all ages.
Some members of the club have collected more than 100 of the old motors. Some of their collections date back to more than a century ago.
“We get a lot of odd looks,” Michael Glenn, President of the Antique Outboard Motor Club Mohawk Hudson chapter said. “People say, ‘I never knew someone would collect outboards.’ And I tell them the same thing every time; if there’s someone that makes it, two people collect it. I don’t care what it is. There are guys that collect matchbooks, they’re guys that collect cameras, or people that collect cookbooks, dolls. Whatever is made, whatever brings back memories of the past. And it also brings some kind of enjoyment. What more can you ask for?”
