The Adirondack Park Agency has decided to approve the use of a controversial pesticide in Lake George.

The agency board voted to approve the use of ProcellaCOR to kill the invasive plant species milfoil in the water.

The Lake George Park Commission has said the herbicide already has been used in hundreds of other lakes without any harmful ecological or human impact.

However, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture concluded ProcellaCOR contains PFOA – a known carcinogen.

A member of the Lake George Association expressed their disappointed at the meeting, saying the lake has been free of chemical for 12,000 years.

The LGA is filing for a temporary restraining order in Warren County Supreme Court to block use of the chemical.

Former Gov. George Pataki also wrote a letter urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to intervene, saying the state should protect Lake George’s legacy.
