Arrest made after homicide at Imperial Motel

Schenectady Police have made an arrest in connection with a homicide at the Imperial Motel.

SCHENECTADY (WNYT) – Schenectady Police announced Friday afternoon that they have arrested and charged a man in connection with a homicide on July 21.

40-year-old Corydon Carlton of Glen Falls with second-degree murder as a Class A Felony for the killing of 49-year-old Renee Stratton.

Carlton now remains in custody at the Schenectady County Jail.

One neighbor told us she believed they were a couple and had a dispute leading up to Stratton’s killing.

Schenectady Police said they were dispatched to the motel for reports of an unresponsive woman in Room 121. Upon arrival, responding officers attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.

One neighbor telling us the police “sat here for days trying to figure out whatever happened in that room.”

Stratton’s death was considered suspicious and eventually determined by detectives to be a homicide due to injuries she sustained from blunt force.
