Assemblyman Smullen introduces bill to honor victims of fatal crashes.
A local assemblyman whose son died one year ago after he was struck by a car is sponsoring a bill to memorialize the victims of fatal crashes.
Assemblyman Robert Smullen’s son AJ was hit by a car on Feb. 22, 2004 on Route 7 in Niskayuna – in nearly the same spot as a fatal crash on Tuesday. He died a few weeks later.
Smullen said fatal crashes like these are not rare and the state must act to reverse these deadly trends.
The Alexander John Smullen Traffic Safety Memorial Law would establish a traffic safety memorial sign program to honor these victims of fatal collisions. Family or friends will be able to purchase a sign to honor the victims of these crashes and help raise awareness about these crashes.
