It’s been a few weeks since the teenage son of local New York State Assemblyman Robert Smullen tragically passed away.

Alexander John, known as AJ, was tragically hit by a car in Niskayuna on Feb. 22, while crossing Troy-Schenectady Road. He died after 12 days in the ICU. He was 14 years old.

AJ had blue eyes, just like his mom, Megan. He was the fourth child, and the first boy.

AJ loved Coca-Cola, dogs, antiquing, wearing flannel, and being outside. He wanted to go to forestry school and had just completed a hunter safety course.

He was learning to hunt with his 88-year-old grandfather.

Learn about how his family is keeping AJ’s legacy alive by watching the video of Subrina Dhammi’s story.
