Funeral of 10-month-old baby held in Copake
A funeral for baby Halo Branton took place on Friday morning in Copake.
Halo died from hypothermia earlier this month, after being left on the General Electric campus in Schenectady.
A release of white doves behind the funeral home pained a sharp contrast between the pure, peaceful innocence of 11-month-old Halo Branton, and the violent, inhumane, and unimaginable manner in which she died.
Her mother, Persia Nelson, allegedly dropped the child into a pipe on the GE campus in Schenectady. There was an Amber Alert, a frantic search and then sadly, the discovery of the little girl’s body.
Nelson is facing charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail at the Schenectady County jail. Nelson requested permission to attend her daughter’s funeral. However, that request was denied.
Halo’s father was at the funeral, along with many family and friends.
Halo’s father wasn’t interested in thinking about nelson’s legal predicament – at least not on Friday. His main focus was grieving the loss of his precious little girl who never had a chance to grow up, live out her dreams, or fulfill her potential.
