Saratoga Race Course could be home to the Belmont Stakes in a couple of years.
Belmont Park will go undergo a major renovation after the third and final leg of the Triple Crown is run in 2024.
The $455 million project includes new track surfaces and a smaller, more modern grandstand.
“Should the construction of a new Belmont Park require the Belmont Stakes to be run at a different venue, then NYRA’s preference would absolutely be to hold the event at historic Saratoga Race Course. A Belmont Stakes at Saratoga is an event that would capture the attention of the entire sports world while driving tourism and economic impact for Upstate New York,” said Pat McKenna, NYRA vice president of communications.
The renovations could put Belmont in contention for a Breeders Cup in the near future.
