Bennington woman pleads guilty to stabbing her dog

A Bennington woman has admitted to stabbing her dog.

Roxanne Coleman, 29, pleaded guilty on April 1 to aggravated cruelty to animals. Coleman was charged with aggravated animal cruelty to animals.

Bennington Police responded to her home on Main Street on March 26, after she reported that a dog was attacking another dog. She stabbed a 1-year-old Welsh terrier/labrador mix named Duncan on the left side of his face.

It caused a 2 to 3-inch cut and he required four sutures, police said.

Coleman received a suspended sentence of one to 12 months in jail and was placed on probation for two years. She had to surrender all three of the dogs.

Two of the dogs already have been adopted, according to Bennington Police Lt. Camillo Grande. Duncan is still recovering, and he cannot be adopted until he is medically cleared.
