Berkshire County property searched in probe of whether child killer committed other crimes
Investigators on Tuesday searched a property in Berkshire County this week in connection to unsolved crimes allegedly committed by Lewis Lent in the 1990s. Lent admitted to abducting and killing 12-year-old Sara Anne Wood. The body of the Herkimer County girl was never found.
New York State and Massachusetts State Police conducted a search in on Summer Street in Lanesborough as part of an investigation into the child serial killer from North Adams.
Investigators found something suspicious using ground-penetrating radar, homeowner Phil Shallies told NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Berkshire Eagle. He gave them permission to cut into the floor, but they only found stones to help with drainage.
Lent did odd jobs for Shallies, who is blind, in the early 1990s. Lent helped build him a basement.
In November, authorities searched an area of the Green Mountain Forest for the remains of Wood.
