This comes amid a surge of social media threats of violence against local schools. New York State
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said he introduced the bill. It’s meant to make sure possible threats are addressed quickly and effectively, he said.
People who report threats in good faith are protected from civil or criminal liability, said Santabarbara.
However, people who don’t report the threat and are 13 and older could face misdemeanor charges.
Santabarbara also said the bill is meant to prevent threats before they are made.
