People saying final goodbyes to second military guardsman killed in chopper crash

The Capital Region in mourning for the second time, as friends, family and the community honor Chief Warrant Officer John Grassia III.

Calling hours were held Monday afternoon at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady for one of the local guardsmen killed in a helicopter crash on the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this month.

Chief Warrant Officer John Grassia III enlisted in 2013 and served as a Black Hawk helicopter maintenance specialist.

The funeral is being held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.

Grassia will be laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Services for the other local guardsman killed in the crash, Chief Warrant Officer Casey Frankoski were held last Friday.
