As we get closer to the first day of school here in the Capital Region, some kids are more prepared than ever before. That’s thanks to an all-abilities camp in Saratoga Springs that is now more than a decade running. Summer camps are often a great way to keep kids physcially and socially active. But, not all summer camps are created equal. Some of them exist in order to create and promote equality.

Camp Abilities Saratoga is in its eleventh summer. Kids who are blind, visually impaired or deaf blind come to Skidmore College for a week full of sports and social activities. Camp Abilities is a service project of the Saratoga Lions Club. Past District Governor John McDonald founded it in 2013, filling a need for kids even beyond the Capital Region. At camp abilities, you’LL find blind soccer, beep baseball, track and field, tandem biking just to name a few. We were there one morning while campers were learning judo from martial artists at Jason Morris Judo in Glenville.
