Capital Region bars adjusting to growing ‘mocktail’ trend

A growing number of people, especially Gen-Zers, are opting to choose mocktails, over cocktails. A recent Gallup Poll shows the number of adults younger than 35 who drink alcohol has dropped from 72% to 62% since the early 2000s.

Capital Region businesses are working to adjust.
It’s not just bars and restaurants. Sales at wine stores have dropped 6% within the past two years. Beer and cider sales are also down.

At the same time, the U.S. surgeon general recently issued an advisory outlining the link between alcohol and the risk of cancer.
