Capital Region radio station ditches alternative for classic country
A Capital Region radio station has made a dramatic format change.
WINU – 104.9 FM – flipped from alternative to classic country at 5 p.m. on Monday.
The station – which was known as “ALT 104.9”, is now “Big Country 104.9”, and simulcasts with a station on 97.9 and 1230AM in Glens Falls.
Pamal Broadcasting – which owns the station – says artists will include Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Trisha Yearwood.
The 104.9 frequency has gone through several formats over the past 25 years – including sports talk, country, smooth jazz, and various forms of rock music.
