Suspended music teacher set to return Monday

The Catskill school musical director was expected back in the classroom Monday after being suspended.

The suspension sparked heated rallies and protests by students and parents.

It was part of an investigation of an incident that happened during a recent rehearsal.

Michelle Storrs was placed on leave after allegations that she told students to put tape on their mouths to get them to stop talking during a rehearsal. One student jokingly did it to herself. The suspensions prompted protests and rallies. The district has postponed the musical “Cinderella” because of the controversy.

Storrs posted to social media that she is returning Monday and was planning to hold a private meeting with students and staff this evening.

The school’s principal, Junait Shah, had also been placed on leave, but is also back on the job.

Students have planned another rally Monday afternoon outside the superintendent’s office.

There is also a petition on Change.org asking the Board of Education to hold a vote of no confidence in Superintendent Dan Wilson and remove him.
