Clifton Park man admits trying to entice 12-year-old girl for sex
Michael Kirkland, of Clifton Park admits to trying to entice a 12-year-old girl for sex.
A Clifton Park man has admitted to sending sexually explicit texts to someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
Michael Kirkland, 30, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Monday to attempted online enticement of a minor.
Kirkland sent the text messages on Aug. 11, 2022, in an effort get the child to participate in sex acts with him, prosecutors said. He traveled to a hotel in Albany County to meet up with the girl. Police arrested him when he arrived.
Kirkland is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11. He faces up to life in prison. He may also face a fine, restitution and forfeiture of the smartphone he used to send the messages.
If he does eventually get out of prison, he faces post-release supervision and will have to register as a sex offender.
