Eight people are homeless after fire ripped through a two family home at 43 McElwain Avenue in Cohoes Friday afternoon.
A neighbor arriving home spotted the flames on the front porch, alerted the residents and got them out of harms way.
That neighbor also alerted residents at 41 McElwain Avenue, next door, which sustained external damage from the heat.
