Colonie Central High School junior dies after playing in volleyball tournament

Colonie is mourning the sudden loss of a high school student-athlete.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday for a 16-year-old from Colonie who died while playing in a volleyball tournament in Boston.

John Verbo died on Feb. 25 at Tufts Medical Center. He was a junior at Colonie Central High School and enjoyed playing basketball and pickleball, according to his obituary. He also loved music and had a great sense of humor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church at 1 Maria Drive in Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited to visit his family on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cannon Funeral Home.
