Colonie Little League fields looking better after torrential storm

Colonie baseball fields cleaned up after intense flooding

The Colonie Little League baseball fields are cleaned up after Monday's intense flooding.

The Colonie Little League baseball fields that were under water after heavy rainfall Monday are looking much better – thanks to the work of dedicated volunteers.

Bleachers, dugout and electrical equipment at Cook Park also were under around 3 feet of water.

“I’ve been down here for 15 or 16 years, and I’ve never seen anything remotely close to this – not even remotely close,” said Tim Fort, a member of the Little League’s board of directors. “I’ve seen puddles on the field. I’ve never been on a baseball field in water up to my waist before.

Fort came down after the storms to look at the damage. He said he was very worried about the damage because all of the equipment and fields are very expensive to maintain. Just the infield dirt alone of the fields cost thousands of dollars.

A lot of the equipment has to be replaced or professionally cleaned

Fort said he is grateful for the people who helped after they saw photos he posted on social media and the coverage on NewsChannel 13.

We heard from a man who owns a restoration company who offered to help prepare the fields for free.
