Colonie Police have taken a man into custody after a standoff that went on for multiple hours in Roessleville.
Police said they responded to reports of an individual armed with a handgun in near the intersection of Exchange Street and Duffy Lane Saturday afternoon.
Officers tell us upon arrival, they encountered a person who refused to exit a nearby residence.
Police were using the loudspeaker on one of their trucks over and over again to try to get the person to come out of the home.
“Please come to the door now. We know you can hear us. We are not going anywhere,” police said over the loudspeaker.
Police were prepared for the worst as they hid behind building and trucks. Officers also used a piece of their truck to break down the front door of the home and windows too.
The man surrendered around 5:30 p.m. Saturday coming through the front of the door with his hands above his head. Police than put him into handcuffs and put him into custody.
The SWAT, Special Services Team, and Crisis Negotiators were deployed to the scene and helped work towards a peaceful resolution, said police.
The standoff kept people who live in the area either stuck in their homes or unable to get to their homes for multiple hours. Nicole Soler lives on Exchange Street and was stuck from getting to her home with her family for over an hour.
“I tried to get back to my home. Yeah, we were at, a family’s house, and we were coming back from the afternoon, and we tried to come in, and we were right over there, and we were told we couldn’t get out of our car until everything was all said and done. So, we sat in our car for about an hour and a half, waiting, just listening here and watching everything that was going on,” Soler said.
Colonie Police said that any arrests will be announced in the coming days and that the incident is under investigation. They said that they are thankful that the incident was resolved without any injury.
