Independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is trying to convince a New York State Supreme Court Justice that he is a New Yorker.

Arguments in Kennedy’s residency trial wrapped up on Thursday. The decision of the court could either give him momentum heading into November’s general election, or it could end his candidacy.

A few dozen Kennedy supporters rallied outside the courthouse Thursday as closing arguments took place inside.

In order to get onto the presidential ballot in New York, Kennedy collected roughly 130,000 petition signatures.

Kennedy’s home address written on the paperwork submitted to state officials was in Westchester County, New York state. However, a lawsuit filed by a group of New York residents, including members of a super PAC for President Joe Biden, claim Kennedy actually lives in California with his wife, actress Cheryl Hines. If that’s true, if there is false information on the campaign paperwork, a judge could invalidate the signatures, which means Kennedy could be booted off the New York ballot.

The judge’s decision could come as early as Friday.
