Crews battled large structure fire in St. Johnsville

The St. Johnsville Fire Department said two elderly people are displaced after a structure fire Saturday night.

Officials said the call came in around 7 p.m. for a report of a structure fire.

The Fire Chief says upon arrival to the scene, the garage was fully involved and there was heavy black smoke coming in through the rest of the house.

Other fire departments were also on the scene for mutual aid.

The fire was under control in about 45 minutes, but the house is likely a total loss, said the fire department. The house sustained a lot of smoke, heat, and water damage.

Two elderly people lived in the home, and now they are displaced. The American Red Cross was there to support them, said officials.

Officials also said they were called back to the scene Sunday morning after the fire rekindled. Firefighters arrived on scene and saw light smoke showing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
