Crews investigating deadly fire on Main Street in Catskill
A large fire broke out on Main Street in Catskill Sunday night.
According to the Catskill Fire Company, Inc. Facebook page, one person died in the fire.
The call came in at 6:17 p.m. for a large structure fire. When crews arrived on scene it was upgraded to a 3rd alarm, meaning more fire departments were called in.
At one point, three buildings were on fire, and firefighters were working for multiple hours to put the flames out.
The fire left significant damage to the 1st floor and basement of one of the buildings. The two neighboring buildings had only minor damage.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with Catskill Fire Department’s 1st Assistant Chief Ed Dolan who said the wood in the building made the fire more challenging.
“It’s the middle of the block wood frame structure on the 1800s. It’s connected to two other words. Frame structures, which means they’re basically built to burn,” said Dolan.
All firefighters were safe an accounted for.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
