Crews will be installing netting around the outside of Albany’s Central Warehouse building as a safety precaution, as more pieces have fallen off the structure.

The city declared a state of emergency in July, after chunks from the long-vacant and decrepit building fell from the wall close to the Amtrak tracks. The trains were shut down for a few days.

The city tells NewsChannel 13 that it is working with the building’s ownership group to address code violations under the former owner – and that includes the safety netting.

The smaller pieces that have fallen most recently are closer to the building and away from the train tracks, the city said.

The Times Union first reported the story.
