Delightful Run for Women in Albany
Hundreds of women headed out on a beautiful Saturday morning to run together in Albany.
The Delightful Run for Women used to be known as the Freihofer’s.
Teams of women and many individuals took part in the race, which wound through parts of the city. Volunteers lined the route, handing out things like water.
Runners also passed a lot of supporters, who cheered them on from the sidelines.
Everyone has their own reason for running. Amber Pasquerella, who was part of a team of moms, lost her infant daughter less than a year ago.
“She spent her life at Albany Med NICU, so it was really special to run in Washington Park,” she said. “I felt like I was running with her. And her strength was carrying me through. So not only was I feeling strength from other women and moms, but I felt like my daughter was with me the whole time.”
The race featured 25 elite athletes.
Coming in first was Keira D’Amato of Virginia with a time of 15:41.
The top local runner was Amanda Chambers of Schenectady, coming in at number 10 with a time of 17:30.
