For nearly five decades, the Delightful® Run for Women has been empowering women through fitness and community. This morning, the event officially launched its annual training challenge, preparing runners for the highly anticipated 5K race on May 31st.

With nearly 250 women already signed up, organizers emphasize that the event is more than just a race—it is a journey of strength and camaraderie.

The 5K training program, which began today, offers structured guidance for participants at all levels. With kickoff events held at three locations, runners and walkers will now embark on a training regimen designed to help them confidently cross the finish line. The program includes everything from beginner walking plans to advanced running sessions, ensuring inclusivity for all fitness levels. Training sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, with full-group runs every Saturday morning.

Event Director Kristen Hislop, who has been involved since 2017, spoke about the significance of the race in the lives of its participants.

“There’s still a need to focus on women. There’s still a need to give them space to feel comfortable—whether it’s starting their health journey, continuing their health journey, or coming back to their health journey. But it’s just a hugely important event in people’s lives,” Hislop said.

She also reflected on the event’s emotional impact, recalling a moment when her children questioned why so many participants were hugging her at the finish line.

“They asked, ‘Mom, why is everyone hugging you and crying?’ And I said, ‘because this is monumental for people. They’re doing something they never thought they could do.’ Once you experience that, you’re hooked. You can’t walk away. It’s so rewarding to be part of something that truly changes lives.”

Registration for the training challenge remains open until April 6th, while sign-ups for the 5K race will continue through May 28th. Participants can register online or in person at the Health and Fitness Expo on May 30th.
