Deputy Albany County executive arraigned on DWI charge
Deputy Albany County Executive Michael McLaughlin was arraigned Monday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
McLaughlin was pulled over by a State Police trooper while driving north on Wolf Road on May 1 for allegedly moving out of his lane.
McLaughlin told the trooper that he was coming from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and had four Fiddle Head IPAs with dinner, court records showed. He said he was going to call his wife to drive him home, according to police.
The trooper smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage and McLaughlin had glassy eyes and impaired speech, according to court documents. McLaughlin failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test, police said.
In addition to DWI, McLaughlin also faces traffic violations regarding failure to keep right, signaling less than 100 feet from the turn and crossing road hazard markings.
McLaughlin’s next court date is July 1.
Because he allegedly refused the breath test, state law requires that McLaughlin’s license be suspended effective on his arraignment. His license could be revoked pending a hearing with the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
