Shooting shuts down 787 exit in Menands

A shooting Saturday afternoon shut down the 787 exit in Menands for hours. A 35-year-old man is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

MENANDS, N.Y. (WNYT) – Menands Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred this afternoon near the intersection of Broadway and the entrance ramp for I -787.

Police said that at approximately 4:30 p.m. officers responded to the scene for reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police said they located a 35-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was treated on scene by emergency personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Menands Police said that at this time the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is being asked to contact the Menands Police Detectives at (518) 463 – 1681.

Menands Fire Department said Exit 6 specifically is closed in both directions (north and south) due to an ongoing incident.

They said emergency crews are on scene, and they ask people to avoid the area and use alternate routes for the time being.

Menands Mayor Brian Marsh tells NewsChannel 13 that two cars were involved in the incident, and one car crashed.

Marsh says State Police are assisting on the scene because it is located on the highway ramp.

He tells us that it appears to be an isolated incident and there are witnesses who saw it happen.
