Disability Baseball Day takes promotes inclusiveness in sports
A special baseball clinic took place on Thursday that allowed anyone a chance to play the game.
The second annual Disability Baseball Day took place at a baseball diamond in Schenectady’s Central Park.
Members of the local baseball community volunteered their time to lead the clinic.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, who has a son with autism, said the event is designed to promote inclusivity and provide an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the sport.
“Have them be on a team, play on a field where professionals play on this field – things that they have perhaps seen on TV or read about,” he said. “It sends a message to our community that we want to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible in all aspects of the community.”
Participating agencies were Liberty ARC, Wildwood Schools and the Crossroads Center for Children.
