The New York State Department of Corrections is speaking out against a rumor on social media in connection with Monday’s homicide in Troy.
As we reported, Juan Rivera is accused of stabbing Kevin Hall Jr. to death during a fight.
The 26-year-old just got out of prison last month after serving four years for assault.
There have been rumors on social media that Rivera was released early at Governor Kathy Hochul’s request because of the shortage of corrections officers in our state prisons.
DOCCS says this is not true.
The department says Rivera was released on his maximum expiration date of March 27 and put on post-release supervision.
Rivera is now being held in the Rensselaer County Jail on murder charges.
