Egg prices have Schuylerville poultry farm growing in popularity

Thomas Poultry Farm in Schuylerville has been producing, processing, and packaging eggs since Harry Truman was elected president in 1948.

The poultry output in the subsequent 77 years has expanded exponentially.

The farm has around 220,000 egg-laying hens on the property. They produce 15,000 dozen eggs every single day.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the country, avian flu has forced farmers to destroy millions of chickens. Egg production is down. Prices are way up.

The average cost of a dozen eggs in the supermarket nationwide is more than $8 a dozen. That’s one of the reasons so many folks have been purchasing yolks at the Thomas Farm.

Jennifer Thomas said her biggest concern is migrating birds that fly and often hang out for a while throughout the region.

That’s how avian flu has spread in other parts of the country.

That’s why they need to implement every safety precaution conceivable to protect their flock and their livelihood.

Learn about what they said could happen if disease were to hit their farm, by watching the video of Dan Levys story.
