The very first librarian for the Crandall Library in Glens Falls was a woman. Her name was Gertrude Ferguson.
She’s featured in artwork currently on display at the library.
The piece was created by artist Tisha Dolton.
Ferguson started working at the library in 1893 – the year after it opened. She had just graduated from high school. The library was known as Crandall Free Library at the time.
Ferguson was an active member in women’s suffrage and attended the convention in 1914.
