Fatal car crash in Bennington County on Route 7

One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash in Bennington County.

The crash happened on Saturday on Route 7, north of Exit 2.

Authorities say Devin Francis, 25, of Bennington, one of the three drivers, was pronounced dead at the scene.

First responders arrived at the scene just after 5 a.m.

One of the other operators was transported to Albany Medical Center with significant head injuries, said Bennington Police.

Authorities say the other driver involved was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation by the Bennington Police Department says that Francis was operating a Jeep Cherokee northbound in the Route 7 southbound lane at the time.

Route 7 between exits 2 and 3 was closed for around 5 1/2 hours, but the road is now back open.
