A man was hit and killed by a car in Colonie, police said.

The crash happened just before midnight Sunday on Route 7, in the area of British-American Boulevard.

Timothy Smith, 62, stepped off the curb and was hit by a car.

Smith was taken to the hospital and later died.

The driver stopped immediately and is cooperating, police said.

Speeding or drugs were not a factor in the crash, said police.

The road was closed for about three hours.
