Fire at Spier Falls dam deemed accidental

Massive dam fire was accidental

Investigators have determined that a fire at the Spier Falls hydroelectric dam was accidental in nature. Fire broke out on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the dam in Moreau Lake State Park. Several departments battled the fire. The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control determined that the fire ignited as a result of an electrical issue with a switch at the facility.
