Investigators have determined that a fire at the Spier Falls hydroelectric dam was accidental in nature.

Fire broke out on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the dam in Moreau Lake State Park. Several departments battled the fire.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control determined that the fire ignited as a result of an electrical issue with a switch at the facility.

Brookfield Renewable, which owns the facility, said that the water retaining structures at the dam were not affected.
