Fire at Lake Placid
The day's major news events, business reports, local sports updates, weather information and tomorrow's forecast are presented by the NewsChannel 13 Team.
The call came in at about 8:08 p.m. Fire crews arrived to see flames on the roof. Videos sent to NewsChannel 13’s Rachel Tiede from Dave McGrath, a guest at the lodge, appears to show a chimney on fire.
Fire crews tell NewsChannel 13 there were about five firetrucks and 50-60 firefighters on scene. It took crews about 30 – 45 minutes to knock down.
McGrath said the staff at Whiteface informed them guests must spend the night a separate hotel, after concerns about a leaking sprinkler, elevator damage, and safety issues. Staff members were shuttling guests to the Cambria Hotel in Lake Placid as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, McGrath said.
