A Latham fire has left 12 apartments uninhabitable for now.

The fire broke out in building 1 of the Latham Village Apartments around 2 p.m. Monday.

The apartment building is located on Latham Village Lane off Troy-Schenectady Road, which is near Kingpin’s Bowling Alley.

Firefighters arrived within two minutes to heavy fire coming out the front two windows.

There were initial reports of people trapped, but that was not the case. Firefighters did face some big challenges, including a fire hydrant that failed.

“We had to go to the next new hydrant, which is all the way out here by Route 2, Troy-Schenectady Road. So once we laid that supply line in, it bottlenecks the only means of egress here to get into the apartment building,” said Fire Coordinator Michael Romano Jr.

Thankfully, there were no serious injuries to people or pets, investigators said.

A road in the area was closed for a time, but it has since reopened.
