Fire official: Cooking mishap caused Watervliet fire

Fire officials confirmed that a fire in an apartment complex in Watervliet was caused by a cooking mishap.
Watervliet firefighters received a report around 5:45 p.m. of a fire at the Highland Club Apartments at 17 Eastview Drive. They were on scene in four minutes.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. However, firefighters remained at the scene for a couple more hours to check on whether the fire had extended to the other parts of the three-story building and clearing out smoke.
A firefighter from another agency slipped on the ice, but no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Cohoes, Green Island, Watervliet Arsenal and Troy assisted at the scene.
The Red Cross opened up a shelter at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for the 20 people displaced by the fire.
