Three workers burned in incident at Troy hydroelectric dam

Three workers were badly burned Tuesday morning at Mount Ida Hydroelectric Dam near Congress Street in Troy.

Three workers were badly burned Tuesday morning at Mount Ida Hydroelectric Dam near Congress Street in Troy. It happened around 8 a.m.

The men were contactors who were working at the facility, according to dam owners.

It’s not clear what electrical work the men were doing. However, NewsChannel 13 is told an electrical arc or large spark happened as they were working about 45 feet down a 90-foot spiral staircase.

All three people got out of the building on their own, Fire Chief Rich Cellucci said.

Two men were flown to Westchester Medical Center’s burn unit.

One person was taken to Albany Medical Center.

The facility won’t be operated until further notice, the owners said. Power in the city won’t be impacted, the fire chief said.
