First on 13: Glens Falls firefighter with early onset Alzheimer’s set to get full retirement

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (WNYT)- It now appears the long-time Glens Falls city firefighter who was forced to retire early because of early onset Alzheimer’s disease will get his full retirement benefits.

NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland has learned that the members of the union representing Lt. Doug Holl have now come up with enough of their own vacation, sick and personal time to share with Holl, who is approximately 18 months shy of 20 years of service.

Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins has been working with the firefighters’ union for months to find a resolution. He told us earlier this week he would do whatever he legally could to get Holl the benefits he’d been seeking.

The council had hoped to be able to vote on its next meeting on Tuesday, but the lawyers had to review the documents. That likely did not happen in time, so it will be taken up at the Feb. 25 meeting.

NewsChannel 13’s Dan Levy spoke with Mayor Collins and Councilwoman Diana Palmer about the situation. Learn more by watching the video.
